From childhood in school, they forced us to study the life and work of José Martí, the Cuban apostle; I had no interest then—in fact, I loved John Lennon's music with the Beatles, which was forbidden music in Cuba. I forbade myself Martí, and the Government forbade me the Beatles; nowadays, I love José Martí and his wonderful work, and if you'll allow me a chronological play, Martí would have loved Lennon—they both lived in New York.
